Description:
Destruction at the River Po. A bridge in the distance can be seen in two parts, one end pointing up in to the air. A pontoon bridge lies across the river in front of the broken bridge. A pontoon bridge is built by laying wooden planks over floating pontoons, which allows tanks, trucks and other military traffic to cross a stretch of water where bridges are destroyed or access is otherwise hampered. Photo taken in Italy during World War Two.
