Scope & Content:
[Newspaper clipping, square, with an aerial view of the Waikanae Beach Bowling Club's grounds and building.]
[Newspaper clipping reads]
50 years of bowling
Waikanae Beach Bowling Club's three greens and surrounds are a far cry from the scrub—covered sand dunes of 50 years ago. The club's first green — C green — is on the left of the aerial photograph with the six—rink artificial surfaced B green in the middle and A green and the pavilion on the right.
The property at the bottom of the photograph is on Lavinia Grove. At the club's foundation, the Waimea Stream used to meander through where B green is now and behind where the pavilion is sited. The stream was diverted to its present course in 1969.
The club is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a jubilee tournament every day this week. Tonight there's a dinner in the War Memorial Hall, with mixed pairs tomorrow and mixed fours on Saturday. The history and development of the club is featured on page 6.
