HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL
BOWEN HOUSE, WELLINGTON, C.1.

1st September, 1938

The County Engineer,
Horowhenua County Council,
P.O.Box 17,
LEVIN

Dear Sir,

Ngatiawa Bridge.

I am in receipt of your letter of 30th ultimo, which deals with the upkeep of the Ngatiawa Bridge and covers your offer to maintain on my Council's account the roads leading to this bridge.

This matter has had consideration and while the offer you make is appreciated, it is unfortunately unacceptable owing to the neccessity for dovetailing our own surfacemen in with other jobs.

All we ask of your Council is that when its repair gang is at the Ngatiawa Bridge in the ordinary course of its own work, or should it at any time be called to the Bridge through any emergency, it carries out during its visits any necessary and obvious repair work required by the portion of the bridge that is in the Whareroa Riding of this County, and charge accordingly.

I am further instructed to say that Councillor Vickerman trusts you will be able to undertake this work, in the meantime at least.

Yours faithfully,

[Signature illegible]
