Ellen and John Workman lived on Tokomapuna Island off the Kapiti Coast in 1839.

John hailed from Scotland and came out here on his Uncle's whaling ship in 1835, a boy of 17. For four years John scoured the South Seas with his Uncle, before settling on a small island off Kapiti.
