GATEWAY TO MAORI VILLAGE, ROTORUA

Maori girls in traditional costume stand at the carved gateway to the model Maori village at Whakarewarewa in the Thermal Region of Rotorua. The girls are holding pois which are carried in traditional Maori songs and dances.

You will see the champagne cauldrons, the great Pohutu Geyser, the colourful silica terraces, hot and cold streams running side by side and the intricately carved houses in the village at Whakarewarewa. The seemingly inexhaustible supply of boiling water and steam has been used for many years for domestic purposes and today, this natural source of enery has been harnessed to produce electric power.
