Workman family reunion

FOUNDER of the family, John Stanton [Stenton] Workman, first came to New Zealand in 1834 with his uncle as a 17 year old on a whaling ship from Sydney. He landed in the Bay of Islands where he come into contact with the local Maoris, even being imprisoned by them for a few days for breaking a tapu; he was treated kindly however, and was ransomed by his uncle for muskets, blankets and tobacco.
